I actually think tuition fees should be abolished or reduced to a nominal level, as they are in Sweden and many other parts of the civilized world.

It's idealistic thinking, I know, but if you can convince someone you are negotiating with that the idea has some merit, it is easier to work towards something closer to the middle.
