Sorry to rip off your title Rob, hope you don't mind.

You may only want the degree, but that's not all you signed up to buy. Just like if you want to buy Windows you're forvced into getting IE, if you want a UW degree, you're forced into dropping ~$224 on the Feds alone, not to mention countless other groups. By signing on to pay tuition, you also signed on to pay incedental fees, and to complain that you don't like how those fees are spent is simply intellectually dishonest. You may not like(e.g.) Dave Johnston getting such a big salary, but that doesn't give you the right to drop your tuition payments by however much that would drop your tuition by. You bought the package, don't bitch when it includes items you may not want to pay for that you knew about in advance.

As for the Liberal campaign finance reforms, as much as I may despise them, the "your money is going to parties you hate bit" is a bit false. As much as I am disgusted by this idea, the fact is it basically turns into a poll tax taken from general revenues to go to the party you vote for. The formula is that each party gets $1.50 per vote they get, so it's simply a "You vote for party X, you're handing them $1.50 of government funds". Unless one party's voters has a significantly higher average tax burden than anothers(which, admittedly, is probably the case), then your vote is only going to fund the party you vote for. I'm not disagreeing on the bill's overall merit, I'm just saying that that's not the reason why it sucks.
