here. But don't forget that the purpose of jail is not to rehabilitate, it is to punish.
The purpose of jail is not simply punitive. It is also to rehabilitate, also to deter others from committing crimes and also to protect society from harm. The balance and effectiveness of these goals is somewhat controversial, but they do exist.
Perhaps you feel the purpose of jail should not be to rehabilitate, but to punish. But that is not the system we have currently.[ Parent ]
