My personal choice would be submission 3. As long as the UWS in the background is changed so that it doesn't look like UWO.

Would the old uws style still be available for those who wish to use it?

Haven't you people learned anything from Google?
Simple, elegant, with not extra bullshit is the way to go. #4 is probably the best in that respect.[ Parent ]

I think two is the best. Three and four are too similar to your current look. A
fresh design would be better.[ Parent ]

#2 is pretty cool.. not sure how it would work with geeklog but i suppose it
doesn't matter.
Should be some cool CSS.

#2's a nice mix of eye candy and functionality. But now, a concern:
- How big is that sucker for download? Some of us are on cruddy dialup, but think that going to lite mode is a little extreme.
And a recommendation:
- News/Feds/RDC etc. are the links I use all the time, but I rarely use Submit Story/Event/What's Hot etc. What if we switched the locations of these so that the former are in the nice big tabs at the top?
That having been said, props to the submitter. That's some tasty design.
Cheers,
Chris[ Parent ]

2 and 4 misuse space too much IMHO.
1 is nice but the scroll is OOGLY.
Ergo, I like 2 best. It wastes the least space, even though grey's not necessarily my favourite screen colour.
uws has a lot of info that needs to be displayed. I feel that 2 and 4 would not display all of this info effectively.

I was working on one then realized its just a rip off what we are playing with
for the new UW design.. but its cool. At least the one that only works in CSS2
complaint browsers. oooh can't wait for CSS3 support!
When is this over? Any chance of an extension?

I have some cleaned up UWS home page code here. I took out
the tables, a lot of open p's and silly placed BR's. It isn't HTML 4.01
valid as some forms and such are screwing it up. But it will work for what i
need it to do. I also added some proper formatting in headers and paragraphs
and cut it down to 5 stories. I left some of the span classes as they were..
might use it. The code I took was from yesterday...
So ya Jesse, I could use a couple days. This week is shaping up to be rather
sane but.. meh. One thing though, it will be CSS2 valid but likely only work in
Moz not IE for now. I don't have time to mess with hacks and workarounds.[ Parent ]

here you go, take a look.
mattism.hyperdot.net/uws/
i've noticed that the advertising banner is not the default 468x60... and i'm not sure if UWS would like to keep the original one or go back with the default-- or completely go crazy with another ad design.
nevertheless, there's room reserved on the orange title bar for advertising space-- so changing that would be no biggie.
if there are still further recommendations... i'd be delighted to revise it.[ Parent ]
