uwstudent.org incorporated four years ago last Wednesday.
Paul Schreiber and Rob Schmidt had registered the domain name October of 1999 and begun developing the weblog system. We began reporting information regularly in the winter term that year. On 28 April 2000 The uwstudent.org Media Corporation was incorporated by George Roter, Rob Schmidt, Paul Schreiber, and me (Ryan Chen-Wing).
Over that summer Imprint and the Daily Bulletin reported on uwstudent.org. The following winter many students were attracted to uws as it reported on the increase in the co-op fee to fund the CECS building that would be later named the Tatham Centre.
uws had its first AGM in March and elected a new board to take over for the founders.
After reporting on a UW agreement with Microsoft uwstudent.org got widespread exposure exceeding 15,000 unique hosts in a week.
The following winter uws enjoyed a large readership as the Feds bar closure unfolded and the lawsuit began.
uws switched from a uws-developed system and adapted Geeklog.
Over these four years uwstudent.org has provided coverage of news and provided an opportunity for readers to participate in discussions about various issues. Since it started uws has reported 925 news stories.
