On Monday, June 14, the Federation of Students, Graduate Student Association, and Wilfrid Laurier University Students' Union co-hosted a successful local candidates forum. During the two-hour event, students had the opportunity to hear about education platforms of the major four parties and to ask questions on a variety of issues.
On Tuesday, June 22 (tomorrow), the UW Debating Society will be holding a public mock-leaders' debate on Health, Justice and Social Issues, Ethics and Accountability, Economy and Environment, and Foreign Policy. Beginning at noon in the SLC Great Hall, the event, which will contain questions from "journalists" and moderated "free-for-all" debate periods, is expected to last an hour to ninety minutes. Questions from the floor will be permitted at two separate points during the debate.
On Election Day (Monday, June 28), the Federation of Students will be assisting students find and get to their polling stations. A table set-up near the FEDS office in the SLC will help students find the information they need and buses will be on hand outside the SLC to take students on a route to their polling locations. Anyone interested in volunteering for the information desk or for get-out-the-vote efforts around campus should contact me at vped@feds.ca. And remember to stay tuned for information about the next volunteer meeting that will take place later this week.
Finally, during this last week before Election Day, students may also be coming around to your class(es) to talk about why voting is important and how we can make it easier for you to make an educated choice on June 28th. Please hear what they have to say and remember to come out and vote. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me by email or by phone: (519) 888-4567 x2340.
