There was a survey around February 2002. The results were fairly even, but those against were strongly against and those for it were less strongly for it (based on the proportions of each response on a five-point scale). Also an improportionate number of first year students responded, but they would not release any information on correlation between year and response (id est whether first-years favoured it more or less).
