Extricability, control, deception
Authored by: Rob Ewaschuk on Friday, October 22 2004 @ 09:04 AM CDT
As for ESA, you highlight my fear. You say, "The ESA may choose to seek Brandon's input on the matter" and "it is up to the ESA whether or not they choose to agree with Brandon." Is it fair for me to suggest, having been a part of Embassy for a few years, and having been involved with leadership, that ESA has no option but to choose to side with Brandon?
Why is this a problem? Prima facie, if they're a club, they have de jure autonomy but de facto cede that autonomy to someone else...I don't see a problem with that. Now, if that someone else leads them down a bad path, like where they start putting poisin apples in their gratis groceries, and the club doesn't take back their autonomy from the apple-wielding maniac, then we have a problem.
I fear that ESA's will always be forced to act in agreement and accordance with Embassy's leadership. Can ESA exist, then, without some element of deception?
Non sequitur. Why can't they be transparent in their approach to governance? Are you suggesting that, ipso facto, they will end up poisoning the apples, as it were?

Jacob (or others), there's something I'm not clear on. Would you suggest that, a priori, The Embassy had the intent of usurping the power of a university club?

(I hope I haven't put in too much latin -- I recognize that it's not the lingua franca on uws, but something drove me to do it ad nauseum.)
