Litigator, first of all I never said that I agreed with him or that I even respected his comments. His timing and lack of sensitivty on this matter was alarming to me.
You said that since it was not an emotional outburst it gives us one less reason to make his comments "excusable". By that reasoning, you think that he has commited some sort of crime, probably hate crime, that he would need pardoning for.
I'm sorry but I fail to see it this way. And it is never sad that people want to stand on the right side of things. I don't see the statement as coming out of hate. In fact, no one seems to know how the topic came up, so no one can pronounce judgement on this guy. People always fail to look at context. I'm sure he didn't just blurt it out in the middle of a conversation. What I'd like to see is a transcript of the show.
As for conclusions and premise: Its never really "alright to kill", even in war. Unfortunately, since we can't prevent it we have international law. We cannot blame someone for trying to interpret in within the context of what is obviously a very sensitive issue.
I'm beginning to think that we're starting to argue about nothing now. The last few posts have really just been comments on previous posts and no counter-arguments have been offered. My original argument was simply that this was not really a hate-crime, but a failed interpretation and that Elmasry should have been more careful, but its not enough reason to outrightly condemn the person (not the commments) and force him to resign.
I'm sure someone will reply now with something to say about condemning the person as opposed to condemning the comments.[ Parent ]
