Today, Judaism is the only major world religion totally programmed by a political ideology, Zionism. In fact, Zionism itself has become the religion of many Jews. Only a century ago, Zionists made up just three percent of the Jewish population. Now, it is non-Zionist Jews who make up the minority three percent among Jews.
Wow, glad to know that my religion is totally programmed by political ideology... Please remember this next time someone says "Oh, but we're really not against Jews, just against Zionists." It's this kind of statement that is used to couch anti-Semitism in terms that the speaker hopes will be politically acceptable. If you're thinking that this is a stretch, read the quote below, from another Elmasry article:
Do you[the Jews] think that now, with the help of the U.S., you can wipe out the Palestinians, then the Arabs and then the Muslims?
<sarcasm>See, the Jews want to wipe out the Muslims! And therefore killing Jewish civilians is justified. Oops, I mean killing Israeli citizens is justified. And that's why I'm anti-Israel, but certainly not anti-Semitic.</sarcasm>
Do you see where the extremism comes out?
The suggestion that somehow the Jews are trying or expecting to wipe out the Palestinians, Arabs and Muslims is about as ironic as you can get. The rhetoric of "pushing the Jews into the sea" was prominent with Arab leaders for decades after the creation of Israel, and the PLO's founding goal was not the formation of a Palestinian state but the destruction of Israel. Instead of holding similar but opposite goals, as Elmasry suggests, Israel has concluded peace treaties with many of the Arab and Muslim countries that surround it, it has significant portion of Arabs and Muslims in its population and it has Arab and Muslim members in its parliament. Yet Elmasry still seems to believe that the Jews are expecting to wipe out the Palestinians, Arabs and Muslims. That's extreme.
