Candidate for VP Internal Anitta Satkunarajah — uws questionnaire

Editor's Note: Anitta, like Yasid and Mark, says that she submitted her responses before 9 February. We apologize for the delay.

The following are the responses by candidate for vice-president internal Anitta Satkunarajah to the UWS questionnaire.

1. Describe the essence of your platform in 30 words or fewer.

I would like to take this opportunity to clean up the Federation of Students by injecting A.I.R. - Accountability, Integrity and Responsibility.

2. What are the three most important issues in this election? List your answers and write 50 words or fewer on each.

Student Involvement: - Improve student life by giving students what they want. - Incorporate students into Feds event planning and decision making - Motivate and empower students to take part in building our UW community

Club Funding: - Clubs need more support and assistance from Feds - The allotment of $50 is insufficient for many of the activities undertaken by various campus clubs - To better serve the interests of our vast community of clubs, I pledge to increase Feds club funding to $75 per term

Focus on International Development: - There are many calamities occurring around the world and Feds should be more aware and willing to help those in need - Locally, nationally and internationally, Feds must facilitate the building of community spirit and the promotion of additional awareness

3. What is your most important contribution to the university community that qualifies you for the position for which you are running? State it and write 50 words or fewer to describe it.

My leadership experience in our UW community: - VOC Frosh Leader & an Arts frosh leader - Shadow Program Mentor for International Students - Arts student representative, Senate Undergraduate Council - Vice President Internal, Arts Student Union - Director of Administrative Affairs, UW International Health Development Association

4. What are Feds' three most significant failures this year? List them and write 30 words or fewer on each.

Communication - Proper channels of communication needed to strengthen UW community - Students are unable to communicate their ideas and concerns freely

Awareness - Feds are seen as a separate entity and the onus is on VPI to make the one on one interaction with students to inform students about Feds

Recognition - Many volunteers dedicate their time by volunteering in various clubs and services unfortunately many of them have never been recognized or praised for their hard work.

5. Describe the two, most important, specific things you would change to make Feds more effective. List them and write 30 words or fewer on each.

- I would personally like to eliminate excess bureaucracy and bring together students and Feds to collectively build our UW community

- VPI should initiative one-on-one and group interaction with students to inform students about the ways they can be better served by the Federation of Students
