trust issues (Jin)
Authored by: Benjamin Ries on Sunday, February 20 2005 @ 04:11 PM CST
Hey Jin etc.,

I haven't spent much time on my credentials thus far because I expect everyone to investigate these issues to the extent that they see fit.

What I have read:
- ESA press release
- Feds press release
- Feds council minutes
- email notices distributed by members of Embassy
- forum discussions on UWS
- forum discussions on the-embassy.org

What I have solicited:
- email responses from those directly involved in conflict for use in uwstudent.org article
- electronic discussion on aforementioned web forums
- personal discussion with Feds representatives, students, and regular attendees of The Embassy church

Who I am:
- 3B Political Science co-op student
- former president of Waterloo Christian Fellowship (including Summer 2003 when Jin was Treasurer on same exec)

I don't claim knowledge of the inner workings of The Embassy. However, as
a) a student
b) with leadership experience
c) in the Christian community on campus
I know "ENOUGH" to talk about the issue. When I say that The Embassy is responsible for polarizing their conflict with Feds along hyperspiritual lines, I'm saying that the claim of persecution has been implicit in all official discussions of "something fishy going on" and all private discussions of "Feds is trying to kick Christians off this campus".

I'm not going to dig out the emails, sort through the forum discussions, spin the juicy quotes, etc. I'm simply going to say that here on campus, truth is PRIOR to so-called "trustworthiness"; when a student raises his or her hand in class, what he or she says is assumed to be true (unless proven otherwise). We all have the right to "post every 2 minutes on this forum" in pursuit of greater understanding and knowledge. If you're looking for a forum where WHO you are matters more than WHAT you say, I suggest the wonderful people at www.the-embassy.org/
