cynicism not completely unfounded...devils advocating
Authored by: David Mandelzys on Friday, April 01 2005 @ 11:32 PM CST
Ok, lets go easy on the cynic for a sec.

I can understand you want to defend EWB's program, as I said in a previous post I think it's worthwhile project and hence very defendable. However, at the same time, there is good reason to be cynical about many international development projects and sometimes questions are more important than self congratulation.

Donor driven aid that benefits the donors more then the recipients seems to be a problem in international development. As are organizations that attempt to create projects simply to feed their beurocracy and keep their employees employed.

As is aid designed to interfere with the political situation in a developing country, such as many world bank projects that are tied to structural adjustment programs.

EWB seems to be a pretty good development organization and I'm not saying that they are doing any of these things, but isn't it good to ask questions?

So, while we're on the topic of questions, here's another one, isn't EWB working on a project in Haiti with the World Bank?

The World Bank has not nessecarily played the most positive of roles in Haiti as of late....maybe some cynisicm is in order.......
