Interpretation
Authored by: saforrest on Tuesday, April 26 2005 @ 01:15 PM CDT
Meanwhile, back on the hill, the Liberals for some reason stopped having so-called opposition days in the house (if anyone has an idea of he real, and the state reason, please share).

Well, to me it seems clear that the cancellation happened because the Liberals expected the Conservatives to introduce a nonconfidence motion during the Opposition Day (whose agenda is controlled by the Conservatives), and the Liberals suspect that such a motion might well pass.

All the speculation about a Liberal/NDP alliance strengthens this interpretation, because it shows that the Liberals believe the Conservatives and Bloc are willing to topple the government at this point.

Presumably the Liberals want to delay the nonconfidence motion because they think they can defuse the situation (unlikely, especially with how annoyed the Conservatives seem to be over the cancellation), or that they just need more time to prepare.
