The clean up
Authored by: Albert on Tuesday, April 26 2005 @ 06:16 PM CDT

Like the others I see some errors in your logic, so read the other responces too, there are some very important points.

Since the public has been informed of some of the testimonies of the Gomery Inquiry, ... This is because the fact is money did end up back into the Liberal party. As well, there was never any follow-up into how the quarter of a billion dollars was being used by the advertising companies. This information is from the testimonies that have been released from the inquiry.

Because when I investigate something I like hearing some of the testimony. Dealing with what happened and why when people are involved isn't to simple. That is why we have inquiries. They spend the time to do the indepth research required. Why bother having judges, if I testify you killed her, than we should we just hang you?

250 million, (or a quarter of a billion) Canadian dollars was funnelled into liberal-friendly advertising companies, even without considering what was done with the money afterwards, this is quite a biased way to distribute money into private corporations.

I am not convinced that all $250 million was funnelled, I believe most reports state the total budget line is around $250 million where as $100 million was spent inappropriately.

$250 million is a lot of money when taxpayers get excited when they find out their local hospital is getting a funding boost of a couple million dollars. Now to think that this money wasn't even put to use as it was supposed to, and even worse, some did (or even a lot of it may have) end up back in the hands of the Liberal party of Canada, is a disgrace that should not be put up with.

It is true $250 million is a lot of money, but the government deals with hundreds of billions. I did understate the significance of the money. It was an attempt to counteract the constant overstating.

But far more importantly, to imply that all $250 million was mis-used and ended up in the Liberal Party is most irresponsible. Again it seems that only $100 million was mis-spent, and only some of that may have ended up in the Liberal party.

If only we had some sort of... say public inquiry which could look into this for us, and report back both answer, and sources. Hey wait we do.

The Liberal government argues that Canada should wait until the result of the Gomery Inquiry in December, and as Arun pointed out, the Gomery Commision was set up by the Liberals, so in knowing that, the decision of the Gomery Inquiry could be "Liberal-friendly".

I think you are a might bit to cynical.

The Conservatives would argue that you already know what kind of corruption has occurred, as can be seen from the release of the testimonies. They would tell you that waiting for what is decided from these wrong-doings in the Gomery Inquiry would only pro-long the lifetime of the current Liberal government. Canada has already seen some of the facts, this was enough to dramatically change Liberal support.

So do you want the truth, or do you want Liberal support to change? I do not believe any unfinished public inquiry should be used as the bais of an election. Unless you would like me to hang you now.

Do Canadians really need to wait and see what Gomery decides in order for them to decide for themselves? Are we really free-thinkers? I know that about half of Canada would like to see an election in the next 3 months, another quarter of Canadians would still like to see some more evidence, but are still willing to decide before the Gomery Inquiry is over.

Like Feds Councillors and the WPIRG referrendum, I do not believe any interested canadian should simple read the outcome of Gomery and then think that way. I don't think people should do what there representives tell them. There representive do also provide context and reason. It is up to a person to evaluate that themselves.

I just took part in a poll at cnews.canoe.ca:
When do you think the next federal election will be held?

The important lessons from STAT 231 aside, is it very important (so important I am repeating it from morgans post) to realize the poll is asking when people think something happen, not if they want it to happen. I don't want to die, but I know I will someday. They are not the same question at all.
