I think the cutoffs are fair, and I think its just that this is a younger batch
that didn't deal with University properly, or they are in the faculty with the
wrong motives. Our University shouldn't decrease quality to aid the people
who don't deserve to go on.
As a part of this "younger batch" in the Math Faculty (though not one in
danger; in fact, these rules don't apply to me. 3 guesses for which program
I'm in), I think you're making some pretty sweeping generalizations. Just
because people did poorly doesn't mean they're in university for the wrong
reasons. Many of my classmates, for example, are programming geniuses,
but a lot of them failed this term because they didn't realize that no matter
how good you are at programming, if you don't know the details of the Table
ADT or how a discrete event simulation works, you're still going to fail CS
134.
I think it's more a problem of study skills. If it takes students a year to get on
their feet in university and figure out how to study, we shouldn't penalize
them. However, we shouldn't be lowering the standards for graduation. This
proposal seems to be designed, as much as possible, to accomplish this. I
mean, you're going to have to repeat the courses anyways if you want to
graduate, and there's only so many times you can fail them.[ Parent ]
