We're considering shutting down uwstudent.org because too few people are willing to regularly contribute good stories and edit them. Without good stories, good comments are harder to come by. The plan is to turn off commenting and stop approving new stories. The current content would be preserved.

uws worked fairly well when it had a small core of dedicated volunteer writers and editors. It needs a new core of similarly dedicated volunteers if it is to remain useful and relevant to members of the UW community.

If you are interested in volunteering, e-mail edit@uwstudent.org by 22 March 2005. If too few people commit to volunteering, then we will freeze the site on 22 March.

uwstudent.org incorporated four years ago last Wednesday.

Paul Schreiber and Rob Schmidt had registered the domain name October of 1999 and begun developing the weblog system. We began reporting information regularly in the winter term that year. On 28 April 2000 The uwstudent.org Media Corporation was incorporated by George Roter, Rob Schmidt, Paul Schreiber, and me (Ryan Chen-Wing).

The deadline for submissions for the uwstudent.org redesign contest is only nine days away!

Details of the contest are included in the story announcing the launch of the contest. To date, four redesign concepts have been shared on uws. Images of those redesign concepts are included below.

I, Rob Ewaschuk, current Technology Director at uwstudent.org, have announced my intention to resign from the position on or about May 31st. I will be traveling for much of this summer, and thus unable to fulfil my duties as a director.

If you use iCal, Mozilla 1.2 or higher with Mozilla Calendar installed, Ximian Evolution or KDE Korganizer, then you can use the uws events calendar. iCal users can subscribe to the calendar.

The uwstudent.org main website has now been running Geeklog for one year.

There's a new section on uws called not uws news. This section contains summaries of stories of interest to undergraduate and graduate UW students. Not uws news stories consist of the following parts:
